April 24, 2025-Another budget extender has been passed by the Senate and Assembly to keep New York State functioning through Tuesday, April 29, 2025.
It appears that progress is being made in the budget negotiations, and we may have the announcement of a framework for a budget deal in the next few days. If this comes together, the two houses would begin voting on budget bills towards the middle of next week. As always, things are very fluid, and this could change. We will continue to provide updates as more information is available.
April 22, 2025-The Senate and Assembly returned to session today and have passed another budget extender to keep New York State functioning through Thursday, April 24, 2025.
While budget negotiations have continued to occur, there has been no major progress to report. It does not appear that a final deal will be in place by the end of this week. At this point, it’s not entirely clear when a final deal will be reached.
April 17, 2025-Budget extender number 6 was passed by the Senate and Assembly today. This extender will keep New York State functioning through Wednesday, April 23, 2025.
In addition, significant progress has been made in the budget negotiations. A deal has finally been reached on the discovery law changes that were proposed by the Governor. Now that these changes have been agreed to, conversations and negotiations are continuing on the other policy matters left outstanding. Once all the policy issues are addressed, the final budget numbers will be negotiated. All agree that the negotiations over the budget numbers are the easiest to achieve and should take the least amount of time. Right now, the hope is that by doing this extender until next Wednesday, the rest of the outstanding matters can be negotiated over the weekend, and early next week, and that budget bills can start to be voted on by Wednesday.
